A study of the Gospel of John
John the Baptist came to bear witness to the Light that came into the world (Jesus). His witness teaches us how to be effective witnesses for him in our lives today.
Jesus is unique in every aspect of His being. There's no one like Him and His uniqueness provides hope for all mankind.
When the Word became flesh and dwelled among us, He came with two things that we desperately need: grace and truth.
The miracle of God becoming flesh is mind-blowing and revolutionary, but it has become almost old hat in our culture because we've heard of it so often. In John 1:14, the author purposefully directs the reader's attention to the Old Testament tabernacle and shows us how it always pointed forward to Jesus.
John reveals to us that the Light (Jesus) came into the world, but the world rejected Him. In fact, even those who were looking for the promised Messiah didn't recognize Him. However, to those who believe in Him, He gives power to become the children of God. What a miracle!
In a somewhat surprising change of subject, the Apostle John suddenly introduces John the Baptist. In so doing, he gives us a glimpse into Jesus' plan for His followers: He's going to push back the darkness to reveal His grace.
