One of the keys to a successful walk with Christ is forgetting the past and pressing toward the future. However, there are some things that the Bible says we should remember. Our problem is that we often forget what we should remember and remember what we should forget. To move forward in Christ, we need to remember the goodness and faithfulness of God and allow that to encourage us as we press on toward the future.

As the Israelites were escaping slavery in Egypt, they found themselves trapped between the Red Sea and the Egyptian army. God came to their aid by parting the Red Sea and allowing His people to cross on dry land. Forty years later, Joshua and the Israelites faced a similar situation. They were about to move into the Promised Land, but the swollen banks of the Jordan River stood in their way. God parted the waters again! What God has done before, He can do again today!

After Moses died, God anointed Joshua to be the leader of Israel. Joshua led the people of Israel into the Promised Land. However, he could never have accomplished that feat if he hadn't been willing to move when God said that it was time to move. That's an important lesson for us today. In order to have the abundant life Jesus promised, we have to move when it's time to move.

It's easy to praise God when everything is going well. However, when we're faced with overwhelming circumstances and it feels as if there's no hope, that's when we need to praise Him the hardest. King Jehoshaphat learned to praise God in the midst of an overwhelming foe, and we can learn from his example.
