The book of Malachi consists of a dialogue of accusations by God against Israel followed by prideful responses from Israel directed at God. Malachi sets the stage for the coming of John the Baptist, who would prepare the way for the coming Messiah.

Jesus proclaims his deity by declaring that He has abilities and prerogatives that only belong to God. Then He offers some witnesses to corroborate His claims.

When John the Baptist's disciples approached Jesus because they were concerned that people were beginning to follow Jesus instead of John, John responded by pointing out that his calling was to point people to Jesus. Then he gave his disciples three reasons why they should follow Jesus instead of himself.

John the Baptist's disciples got a little frustrated and jealous when Jesus started taking the attention of the people away from John. John, however, was completely content because he knew his purpose and his role in God's story.

When John described Jesus as the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world, he said a mouthful! Understanding what that title really means helps us respond to Jesus in a way that changes our lives and causes us to tell other people about Him.

John the Baptist came to bear witness to the Light that came into the world (Jesus). His witness teaches us how to be effective witnesses for him in our lives today.
