John: The Gospel of Belief

A study of the Gospel of John

As Jesus prepares His disciples for His departure from them, He promises them that He's not going to leave them helpless, nor will they be alone. He promises that His relationship with Him will continue to grow even though He's returning to His Father.

In the midst of the disciples' anxiety, Jesus gives them a hope that goes beyond anything they will suffer in the future. It's the same hope that sustains Christians today when they're suffering. That hope is heaven!

Jesus knew that Judas was going to betray him. That foreknowledge helps us have an even deeper faith in Him because it means that the events of Jesus' death didn't happen TO him, He was in control the entire time.

When the disciples began to argue about who would be the greatest in the kingdom, Jesus told them that they had everything backwards and upside down. If you want to be the greatest, you have to serve everyone. In John 13, Jesus gave a living illustration of what it means to serve.
